Children’s rights
concern everyone!
World Children’s Day, celebrated every year on November 20, marks the anniversary of the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child by the United Nations General Assembly in 1989. Ratified by almost every country in the world, this convention defines 54 children’s rights, including the right to life, to health, to education, and to play.
The Ministry of National Education, Children and Youth, through its Children’s Rights Service, coordinates the implementation of the Convention in Luxembourg. In collaboration with numerous public and private partners, it ensures the promotion and protection of children’s rights in all areas of everyday life.
Every year, on the occasion of November 20, numerous actions and activities are organized throughout the country, inviting both children and adults to actively participate in defending children’s rights:
🎭 workshops, exhibitions, conferences
🎨 creative projects in schools and in education and childcare facilities
🎉 events for children and adults

Discover children’s rights in one click!
To raise greater awareness of children’s rights, the Ministry launched the website www.staarkrechter.lu in 2025.
Available in French, German, Luxembourgish and English, this site is aimed at children and young people aged 6 to 18.
Designed as an informative, educational and interactive space, it provides tailored support to help users better understand their rights, explore useful resources, and engage actively in promoting children’s rights in Luxembourg.
The site can be used as a teaching tool in primary and secondary education, as well as in non-formal educational activities. It is also a valuable resource at home, helping parents, relatives and friends introduce children’s rights in a fun and educational way.
It includes information on the history of children’s rights, as well as their meaning and implementation in Luxembourg.
